Branch Out Newsletter – June 2024
June 12, 2024
Tasmanian Irrigation delivered a record 94,137 megalitres of irrigation water to 30 April to help farmers offset the impacts of the extended dry. That’s 76 per cent more than the previous year.
Without this water farmers faced reduced crop yields, crop failures and selling off livestock due to the lack of feed.
Please find attached the latest edition of Tasmanian Irrigation’s quarterly Branch Out newsletter, which includes:
- How Tasmanian Irrigation has altered its water delivery operations to assist farmers this season;
- The latest on dam levels in light of the lack of autumn rain;
- The next steps for the Greater South East Irrigation Scheme in the wake of the Federal Budget;
- How Tasmanian Irrigation is consulting with irrigators regarding community management of publicly owned irrigation schemes;
- Meet Tasmania’s new Primary Industries and Water Minister, the Hon. Jane Howlett;
- The focus on reducing the volume of unsold water on operational schemes; and
- Meet irrigator John Fehlberg and learn how water is underpinning his diversification and expansion plans.
