Tasmanian Irrigation appoints new CEO
Tasmanian irrigation has announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, following a nationwide recruitment process.
Mike Sylvester is currently Chief Executive Officer of Blueline and will take up the role with Tasmanian Irrigation in March 2025. He has a background in delivering major water infrastructure programs in Tasmania, nationally and internationally in the public and private sectors.
“Mike’s track record positions him exceptionally well to oversee a period of growth for the Company,” said Kate Vinot, Chair of the Tasmanian Irrigation Board.
“Tasmanian Irrigation has a major program of capital works to deliver over the next five years, consisting of around $900 million of new infrastructure funded by irrigators and the State and Federal Governments.
“Mike’s strong commitment to collaboration with stakeholders, including irrigators, will be key to achieving the growth, community and sustainability benefits of investment in these major, publicly-owned irrigation schemes.”
Mr Sylvester will drive implementation of the Company’s 2035 Strategic Plan, helping to secure Tasmania’s agricultural prosperity and growth by ensuring viable access to water.
“Irrigated agriculture plays a transformative role in turning potential into prosperity. I’m delighted to take up this role at a time when reliable and sustainable access to water is more critical than ever.
“I look forward to working with the Tasmanian Irrigation team, customers and stakeholders to deliver sustainable economic growth that will yield benefits to the State for decades to come.
“The Company’s 19 operational schemes will be progressively supplemented by new schemes that are now in the planning and construction stages. Collectively, these schemes will build resilience against climate variability and drive inter-generational sustainability for farming in Tasmania.”
Mr Sylvester takes up the role in March 2025, and retiring CEO Andrew Kneebone will continue in the role until that time.
